November 13 – Wrath of the Lich King expansion released

  • Level cap raised to 80
    Northrend added
    Death Knight class added
Strand of the Ancients battleground added

November 23 – All players logging in are awarded Baby Blizzard Bear and achievement WoW’s 4th Anniversary.

Having played World of Warcraft for over three years and having been in (more than) four guilds, been an officer in two and a nearly, almost guild fonder, guild master of one, you may have been hoping that I’d become more mature, more circumspect, less dramatic. Oh you’re going to be so disappointed.

November 10Ruta joins Knights of Midnight and makes a mistake.

  • Swedish Dave ran a very small and friendly guild. I really enjoyed our raids but it did seem a struggle to retain members. I guess much more of this must have gone on before I joined because Dave was completely burned out.

December 16Knights of Midnight is disbanded while Ruta is out of game for Christmas (no one could blame me for this one).

  • I went away for Christmas and when I came back I was no longer in a guild…one  of the officers rolled a guild called Dark Wings. Oh please, please, please don’t let Dayle be the officer that started it. “Who’s the new GM?”, “It’s Dayle.” This is surely going to end badly…

December 30Ruta asks Dayle for an invite, invite extended.

Dayle has not improved any. He still sounds arrogant and condescending on voice chat, but now he’s the GM.

January 07Ruta makes remarks that are effectively a resignation. However, (technically) kicked out of a guild for the second time.

April 14 – Patch 3.1.0

  • Ulduar added
  • Argent Tournament added
  • Dual Talent Specialization

Late April – a player is banned for exploiting the game after using a mistakenly-mailed Game Master artefact called [Martin Fury].

I wanted to be in a proper 25 man raiding guild, so my first port of call was ElitistJerks to learn how to play Affliction warlock properly. I quickly learned that everything I thought I knew was wrong. I applied to Incarna Mortis (IM) in early 2009.

April 25 – Ruta joins Incarna Mortis and learns all about MMO grudges.

  • I led a few alt / new member gearing runs through Naxx25. Raided with the progress team during Q2 while the raiders were away on holiday. Towards the later stages of my two month probation a trend developing. Returning Raiders would join Ulduar runs on Wednesday night, for farm content. As a lowly Member I would get benched in favour of Raiders. I could never join the farm nights downing Flame Leviathan, Ignis, XT-002, Razorscale and Kologarm. There seemed to be more slots available on progression nights: Thursday. Less people seemed to want to wipe on Auriaya, Hodir and Freya. Slowly raid slots dried up altogether.
  • I spoke to the GM, Varden@Dragonblight, and the ranged Class Leader, Deathcondor@Dragonblight, asking if there was some issue that was preventing me from raiding. They both assured me there wasn’t and it was just that I hadn’t been promoted to Raider and my DPS had become low after the recent nerf to Affliction. I respecced to the popular Afflic/Demo hybrid.

August 4 – Patch 3.2.0

  • Crusaders’ Coliseum added
  • Isle of Conquest battleground added
  • Instance Lock Extension

August 06Ruta leaves Incarna Mortis amid accusations of drunken raiding and unnecessary drama LMFAO.

I posted on the website about my situation. I’d re-specced and would any raider give up a raid slot one night so I could demonstrate my improved DPS and maybe get my promotion to Raider? Then two officers Lipz@Dragonblight and Esta@Dragonblight weighed in. Lipz said I could never raid with IM again because I was pissed in every raid. Esta said the raid rules were clear, they wouldn’t break them for one person and it was just like me to create drama about something just because “it didn’t suit me“. If she’d known who I was before I’d joined she would never have allowed me into the guild. I still smile and shake my head at the idea of a grown man (older than me and I’m 47) sitting down at his computer on a Saturday night to do some serious gaming without a beer.

October 23Ruta (and Fleetfoot) join a little (predominantly) Norwegian guild For Pwny.

  • Most of the “interesting” events of my 13 month membership form the early spine of this rantfest blog, so I won’t be as verbose as I was about IM or BSS (thank god they all cry).
